Expert certification versus user rating in travel and tourism

I heard many voices saying that in the times of community ratings expert assessments are not necessary any more. True, user ratings are important and we often rely on them when buying something or booking a hotel. But still, user rating is not everything. For some products up to a third of user ratings are fake, they are done by the seller or somebody he commissioned to do that. This is common practice. So Tripadvisor had to remove its claim: “reviews you can trust” from its UK web site. Though in many cases we can rely on user votes, assessments, reviews etc. they can hardly be used as hard facts, say in the B2B field. There you have to obey ISO norms and experts assessing on it. They in many respects can say more than a user rating. Take the example that you book a well rated journey and start enjoying. For some reason the travel agent goes bankrupt and you have to pay a second time to be able to continue your holidays (as it happened recently). No prior participant could have known this and usually nobody checks the sufficient insurance for the package. There are many things, that are not visible to the user or traveller at once.

Another example: You plan to start a longer journey by car. Ten of your friends ‚voted’ your car okay because it looks good and drives well, but the mechanic says no, there are severe problems with the brake. Would you rely on your friends start that journey without any worries?

  1. The ISO 9001 quality meeagnmant standard can help you drive up efficiency, save money, satisfy more customers and win new business. One reason for ISO 9001 being so popular is because it can be implemented by organisations of any size or industry sector. Consequently, it is often a supply chain requirement as it can ensure continuity amongst suppliers.ISO 9001 certification is suited to organisations who wish to improve their meeagnmant processes and demonstrate that their quality credentials are independently verified. This usually leads to improved client retention and helps them win new business, particularly when bidding for public sector work where ISO 9001 is usually expected. Thanks!!!For more information visit: | |

    1. Everything you write is true. It is also true, that for ISO 9001 in the tourism and travel trade you have to do many things, that do not help your business. At “Quality in Travel” we focussed quality management to the needs of the trade, which should, properly applied, lead to advantages for the customer, the partners and the company alike.
